According to a study recently published in the JAMA Network, sprinkling table salt on your food may endanger your kidneys. As per the study, it increases the risk of Chronic Kidney Disease or CKD. As per the study, the risk is significantly more pronounced in people who engage in low physical activity and have a lower body mass index.

This means that for those people who are underweight or do not engage much in physical activity and prefer to sprinkle salt on food, the risk is especially higher. Such people are more likely to develop CKD. The study involved 465,288 participants and utilised self-reporting as methodology. Participants reported whether they frequently added salt to their meals.

Those who reported a higher frequency of adding salt to food were significantly linked to an increased risk of CKD. According to Rui Tang of the Department Of Epidemiology at Tulane University in the US, reducing the frequency of adding salt to food during mealtimes might actually be a valuable strategy in lowering the risk of CKD in the general populace.

So, if you are someone who regularly sprinkles salt on food, then you should probably start avoiding that habit. It is likely to make you susceptible to CKD.
