Manoj Bajpayee Talks About How He Used To Find New Roles Before Making It Big In The Industry

On this fun episode of Sunday Brunch X The Bombay Journey, Manoj Bajpayee spoke about how he would visit every studio for work and befriend chief assistant directors in hopes of obtaining major roles in films. He joined our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani and Mashable India’s Siddharth Aalambayan for a drive through Juhu and spilled some interesting details about his life.

This Is How Manoj Bajpayee Found Roles Before Becoming A Household Name

We talked about Manoj’s earlier days in the film industry and how he would find new roles. He mentioned how casting directors are trending in the film industry nowadays. But back then, there were no mentions of or need for a casting director. Hence, Manoj would visit studios where any filming was taking place.

He shared that he would submit his photographs to the director or the chief assistant director working there. Soon the focus was on assistant directors and our guest highlighted that it was the best thing to be friends with the assistant directors in those days. The reason? Because directors wouldn’t have the time to talk to every actor.

He even called it one of his big achievements back in the day. Manoj mentioned that after making great connections with the chief assistant directors, they would invite them to their house. He would accept the invitation, go over to their house and make drinks for them in hopes of some exposure in the film industry. He concluded that by saying, “So that used to be the kind.”

He mentioned that this acted as a great bonding time for them, as they would be frustrated when they didn’t have any films to do.

He revealed to us that he resided in a chawl in D.N. Nagar. It began with just two friends living together and turned into 10 people! Next, he shared with us that he used to cook ‘tehri’ for dinner as it was simple and pocket-friendly for a bunch of aspiring actors, directors and producers living together.
