The City That Never Sleeps is often used as a moniker for Mumbai. If you have lived in the city, you know that this financial capital of India never stops for anyone. The rest of the Indian cities are deemed as ‘too slow’ by Mumbaikars. New York is often compared to it. On this episode of The Bombay Journey x Sunday Brunch, Manoj Bajpayee joined our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, and revealed his thoughts on the concrete jungle, New York. Read on to know how it was his international vacation destination.

Manoj Bajpayee’s First Trip To New York

We talked about Manoj’s first international trip which was to Paris at the age of 22! He shared with us that it was due to the theatre that he spent a couple of months in the City of Love. But for a proper vacation, he and his girlfriend-turned-wife, Shabana, went on an international trip to New York back when they were dating.

Mashable India’s Siddharth Aalambayan asked our guest whether that city was similar to Mumbai. Manoj thought for a split second and said that it was not and that New York was better than Mumbai! But he agreed that it also has a distinct smell and the speed is similar to that of Mumbai.

While talking about similarities and differences between the two megacities, Manoj shared that one of the main reasons for similarity is that folks are work-driven due to a capitalistic mindset. In New York, productivity is so much more and added, “You are not a human being, you are a product!”

Manoj doesn’t think he easily fits in the world of the USA because folks there lack the basic need for human connection and conversations. He travelled to the USA many times but forging human connections is challenging every time.
