Massive Wildfire Breaks Out At Dzuko Valley On Nagaland- Manipur Border

The picturesque Dzuko Valley, that runs through the borders of Nagaland and Manipur, is now on the verge of a massive wildfire. The fire started heading towards Mount Iso of Manipur. Reportedly, the fire has adversely affected the fauna of the region. The District Forest Office (DFO) in Senapati district is assuming that the origination of the blaze took place in the Nagaland side. The Mao Council Manipur is suspecting it to be a result of arson.

Wildfire Engulfs Nagaland-Manipur’s Dzuko Valley

A massive fire has started spreading across Dzuko Valley, located at the borders of Nagaland and Manipur. The state government of Manipur has asked for assistance from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to bring the situation under control. Around 200 firefighters are trying to put out the fire, with the help of the Army and the paramilitary forces. According to The Indian Express, a senior forest official has said, “As per the information gathered from villagers residing near the Nagaland border, the wildfire may have been raging since December 28 on the other side and reached Manipur border on Thursday morning. Villagers And Forest Officials Sent To Douse The Fire

Speaking about the fire, the senior forest official has said that nearly 130 villagers and forest officials have been in action to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to the Manipur side. In controlling the fire, there had been challenges like abrupt terrain and ferocious winds. The team had to trek nearly 14 kilometres of steep terrain to reach the border. Earlier, a similar fire had broken out in the region two years back, in 2018.
