Mayon Volcano, Philippines’ Most Active Volcano, Erupts. Check The Spine-Chilling Pics

Mayon volcano in the Philippines, also known as Mount Mayon or Mayon, is an active stratovolcano. It is a super popular tourist attraction because of its symmetrical conical shape and is considered sacred according to the mythology here. This active volcano gently oozed out lava, and the people had to be evacuated from the place immediately. Many spine-chilling pictures of this eruption surfaced on the internet!

Philippines’ Most Active Volcano, Mayon Volcano Erupts

The Philippines Mayon volcano began oozing out lava on Monday. Officials warned all the tens of thousands of villagers residing there to get ready to flee from their homes if the gentle volcano in any case turns violent.

About 13,000 of the villagers who belonged to the poor farming communities had to leave their houses in a mandatory evacuation. These villagers resided within a 6-kilometre (3.7-mile) radius of the volcano, and since the volcanic activity was on the rise.

An unspecified number of people still live in an area under Mayon that is very dangerous. But the people have lived and farmed her for generations as they did not have anywhere to go. Lucrative businesses have been running here even after the ban and volcanic eruptions.

The Plight Of Many Filipinos

Teresito Bacolcol, director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, said on Monday that they will have to expand the high risk zones if the volcano gets violent. He mentioned that if this happens, the people living in these expanded areas will have to leave, and hence they should be ready for the same.

Now that the Mayon volcano has erupted, people have had to be evacuated immediately from their houses. The thousands of people who live in these extremely dangerous areas show us how impoverished Filipinos are. These people are actually forced to stay in such places because they have nowhere else to go.

These places include landslide prone mountainsides, vulnerable coastlines, earthquake fault-lines, villages prone to flash floods, and active volcano regions. This is what a former senator and the longtime chairman of the Philippine Red Cross, Richard Gordon, highlighted.
