From Cairo’s Eid Al Adha Rules To Turkiye’s 5.6-Magnitude Earthquake, 5 Middle East Updates

Some days in the region are packed with huge announcements. Other days are a mix of travel updates, tech changes and rules people suddenly need to know before Eid. From Bahrain tightening entry rules over Ebola concerns to Dubai using AI to manage marine transport better, several updates across the Middle East and nearby regions are already getting attention.

5 Middle East Updates For You

1. Bahrain Temporarily Blocks Travellers From 3 African Countries

Bahrain has introduced temporary travel restrictions linked to Ebola concerns. Non-Bahraini travellers arriving from South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda are currently not allowed to enter the country. The rule also covers travellers who visited those countries within the last 30 days. Bahraini citizens can still return home, but they’ll need to follow health checks and other safety procedures after arrival. Authorities say the temporary measures started on May 19 and will stay active for 30 days while the situation is monitored.

2. 5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Southern Turkiye

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Malatya Province in southern Turkiye on Wednesday morning. According to AFAD, the country’s disaster authority, the quake happened near Battalgazi district at a depth of just over seven kilometres. Thankfully, there were no immediate reports of injuries or major destruction. Still, earthquakes in this part of Turkiye continue to worry people.

3. Dubai’s Marine Transport Is Getting Smarter With AI

Meanwhile in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority is rolling out more AI-powered systems to improve marine public transport. Instead of relying on fixed schedules all year round, the city’s Seasonal Network programme can now adjust services depending on passenger demand, holidays and major events happening around Dubai. The system studies things like occupancy rates, passenger flow and travel patterns in real time.

4. Sheikh Hamdan Launches AED1 Billion Space Programme

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has announced a AED1 billion International Space Cooperation Programme aimed at growing the UAE’s space sector. The initiative will support partnerships between UAE universities, research centres and global space organisations. It also focuses on developing local talent and expanding advanced technology industries inside the country. That said, the UAE has been investing heavily in space research for years now.
