Dakar Rally To Move From Saudi Arabia For 2027 Edition
The new location for the Dakar Rally is expected to be announced soon, moving from Saudi Arabia for 2027. As revealed by Gulf News, it is being speculated that the Dakar Rally may return to Africa. Yes, according to these speculations, the preferred option could be from Spain to Morocco. However, nothing has been announced so far, as the new territory is yet to be revealed by the organisers.
History Of Dakar Rally
For those who don’t know, this is a multi-stage event. It was created in 1978 and was formally called the Paris-Dakar Rally. It followed the route from the French capital to Senegal, Dakar. However, due to security threats in North Africa, organisers had to move the event to South America in 2009. It was later relocated to Saudi Arabia in 2020. As revealed by the organisers, they do plan to bring this rally back to Saudi Arabia in 2028. It will celebrate the Rally’s 50th edition.
Other Events Affected In The Region
Due to regional conflict, the latest sports calendar is disrupted. Other major sporting events have also been disrupted in the region. This includes Formula One Grand Prix in Jeddah that was cancelled, Bahrain race was also called off. The final round of the World Championship, which was supposed to take place in Saudi Arabia in the next month, has also been cancelled.
However, some have remained on the calendar at the time of writing this article, which includes the final two Formula One races of the season in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, which are on November 29th and December 6th, respectively.
