The Dubai RTA is constantly trying to upgrade the roads and services in Dubai, so that residents and tourists can easily travel through the city without any hassle. With the authority ensuring that motorists get a smoother experience, they have now awarded a major contract. Yes, this is for the upgrade of the intersection of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with Al Awir Road and Al Manama Street. For those who are wondering, this is a key corridor that serves the fast-growing residential and development areas of Dubai.
Dubai RTA Announces Major Contract
As revealed on X by the Dubai RTA, the project is a part of its wider effort to reduce traffic congestion. Not to mention, they aim to improve mobility and to ensure that it keeps pace with the urban expansion and population growth in Dubai. At this point, it’s worth mentioning that the project includes the construction of 2,300 m of bridges. Not only this, but there is also widening of lanes, addition of new entry and exit points along Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street & Al Awir Road, and development of service roads.

It should be noted that it is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2028. Once this is done, it would increase the road capacity from the existing 5,200 vehicles per hour in both directions to 14,400 vehicles per hour, and with there being an increase of 176%, it would also reduce the travel time along the corridor from 20 minutes to just five minutes! A major part of this development is the conversion of the existing roundabout at the intersection into a grade-separated interchange.
This would, in turn, result in free-flowing traffic in all directions. Coming to the new bridges, as mentioned above, these would be constructed at the intersection of Al Awir Road with Emirates Road. As a result, traffic that is moving towards Al Awir Road and Sharjah will be able to make use of this.

It Would Ease Conjestion
Not to mention, there will also be the development of parallel service roads so that there is improved access for the surrounding communities. The latest contracts have been built on a series of RTA projects, which are along the Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. With the aim of easing congestion across Dubai, the previous phases have included the construction of 25 km of dual carriageway, along with other developments. These include signal junctions, grade-separated interchanges, and bridges that serve key areas of Dubai Silicon Oasis, Global Village, and Academy City.
With this development complete, people will certainly be able to travel in Dubai a lot more freely.
