Mumbai Airport Witnessed Over 52.8 Million Passengers In A Financial Year

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, one of India’s busiest airports, recorded a grand milestone in FY 2023-24. According to the recently released press note, the bustling airport witnessed epic passenger traffic of more than 52.8 million passengers in the financial year of 2023-24. The number was about 43.9 million in the previous financial year 2022-23. FY 2023-24 saw an increase of 16 per cent in passenger footfall in comparison to the previous financial year.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport recorded the departure of more than 26.7 million passengers and over 26 million passengers on arrival. Along with a spectacular number of welcoming flyers, the premises also accommodated a total of 3,24,972 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs). In comparison to FY 2022-23, the FY 2023-24 marked a 12 per cent year-on-year growth rate. The number was 2,90,387 ATMs in the last financial year.

Also, the number of bags processed by the airport in FY 2023-24 was more than 40.7 million. When compared with FY 2022-23, the number of processed bags saw an uptick of 31 per cent. Mumbai airport witnessed a spectacular surge in numbers in November and December 2023. The airport welcomed 1,67,132 passengers on November 25 and it was the highest footfall for the entire month. It included 1,20,000 domestic passengers and over 46,000 international passengers. The airport marked December 2023 with the highest monthly traffic ever as it welcomed 4.89 million passengers.

In the financial year of 2023-24, the top 5 domestic destinations from Mumbai Airport were Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. The top 5 international destinations were Dubai, London, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and Doha. The top airlines in terms of market share were IndiGo, Air India, and Vistara.
