On Wednesday morning, traffic was allowed to flow on another important interchange arm of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), which connects Marine Drive with Haji Ali Juice Centre. This is a major step towards the enormous coastline road project’s completion. It is anticipated that the last arm, which will link Lotus Jetty-Worli Naka to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL), will be operational by the third week of March.

From the Princess Street Flyover at Marine Drive to the Worli terminus of the BWSL, the coastal route is 10.58 kilometres long. At strategic points including Haji Ali, Peddar Road (Amarsons Garden), and Worli Sea Face, the proposal includes multi-level interchanges. There are four entry-exit arms at the Peddar Road interchange, eight at the Haji Ali interchange, and five at the Worli interchange. Prior to the construction of the new Haji Ali interchange arm, southbound traffic could reach the coastal route via the BWSL, the Worli interchange, or the Amarson’s intersection.

The last arm needs to be opened at the Worli interchange so that northbound cars can link directly from Worli to the BWSL. The project is anticipated to be finished by the end of next month. By the third week of March, this last connection will complete a crucial section of the MCRP and be accessible to traffic, a top civic official said to The Free Press Journal.
The official went on to say that the opening had been delayed because of the construction of vehicle parking spaces for the traffic arms. Parking spaces had to be constructed, which is why the opening of these arms took some time, The official stated. The Haji Ali interchange’s vehicle arms were previously opened in December 2024.
On January 27, 2025, the bow-string bridge’s northbound carriage, which links the BWSL and the Coastal Road, opened to traffic. With the travel time between Bandra and Marine Drive reduced to only 10 to 12 minutes, this new route has been a huge help to drivers and provided thousands of daily commuters with a much-needed, quicker option.
At a total cost of ₹13,983 crore, the Coastal Road project got underway in October 2018. According to BMC, the road has cut fuel consumption by 34% and travel time by 70%.
