Mumbai Food Trucks To Get Support From Govt; 65 Locations Identified For Street Food

Food trucks are a part of the Mumbai culture now. From lip-smacking vada pav, gol gappas to refreshing falooda, we can’t even mention three of them without our mouths watering! Now there is some yummy news for our favourite food trucks as the government has decided to support them in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) budget and a total of 65 locations designated across Mumbai has been selected.

BMC To Support Food Trucks In Mumbai

The idea of including food trucks into the BMC plan is an extension of BMC’s plan to station food trucks across the city. They had actually prepared a draft policy last year. Aaditya Thackeray, the State’s Tourism Minister has also advocated this move. According to Hindustan Times, in recent months, BMC has plans to set-up street food hubs across Mumbai. And for that, they reserved ₹200 crores in their budget. BMC has also identified 65 locations wherein 3,331 vendors will be accommodated. These vendors can also sell food on trucks or in normal stalls.

Street Food Vendors Can Operate Their Food Trucks Till 11 PM

Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal spoke about this initiative to Hindustan Times and said that they already identified 65 locations for 3,331 vendors. These vendors can also operate food trucks from 6 pm to 11 pm.BMC has said that the food truck owners will be given designated spots but these food trucks cannot be used for any other purpose apart from selling food. The owners will also have to get permission from BMC’s health department, license and shops & establishment department followed by the traffic police and the fire brigade.
