Mumbai Gets Its First-Ever Monsoon Shelters For Stray Animals In Bandra, Khar & Santacruz

Monsoon in Mumbai is hard for the people, so imagine how difficult it must be for the stray animals in the city! Understanding how this season can take a toll on the animals, the I Love Mumbai Foundation has unveiled the city’s first-ever monsoon shelter for stray animals in the city. The shelters are designed to offer refuge to stray dogs and cats during the heavy rains. Read on to know more about it.

Mumbai’s First-Ever Monsoon Shelters For Stray Animals

In a move to protect Mumbai’s stray animals during monsoon season, I Love Mumbai Foundation has launched Mumbai’s first-ever monsoon shelters. An initiative by Ashish Shelar, a local politician from Bandra West, and Rahul Narain Kanal from the I Love Mumbai Foundation, these monsoon shelters will provide comfortable homes to the stray animals in the city.

The foundation is working to establish such shelters in 20 locations across Mumbai. For now, these shelters have been installed in Bandra, Khar and Santacruz areas. The aim of these shelters is to provide refuge to the strays during the monsoon season to help them survive this difficult season. As per a Mid-Day report, these locations have been selected considering the stray dog population in the vicinity.

I Love Mumbai Foundation took to Instagram to announce this initiative. In the post, they talked about the difficulties faced by stray animals in finding dry resting spaces when it rains heavily in Mumbai. To overcome this difficulty, they came together with Ashish Shelar and set up small shelters for animals in Bandra, Khar, and Santacruz.

At Mumbai’s first-ever monsoon pet shelter, these folks have installed moveable cages that can easily accommodate two to three animals at one time. Not just dogs, but stray cats will also be able to rest at these shelters during the heavy rains. I Love Mumbai Foundation has taken full responsibility for maintaining hygiene and sanitation around these shelters. They have also ensured people through their Instagram posts that no shelter has been placed near residential structures without the necessary no-objection certificates from the concerned citizens and buildings.

While talking to The Times of India, Ashish Shelar said that these shelters aren’t just structures but will also provide comfortable shelter to the strays in the monsoon. These homes will prove to be a great relief for them during Mumbai’s monsoon season.

This is truly a well-thought-out initiative for the strays in the city! Let us know your thoughts about it in the comments.
