It’s finally here! The dreaded yet celebrated Mumbai rains! And so are all the feared consequences of the rain including but not limited to waterlogging. On the eve of Sunday, June 9, 2024, Mumbai welcomed its very first bout of heavy rain. Though it brought relief, it also immediately brought calamity. A portion of an under-construction building collapsed in the Vikhroli region of the city and ended up claiming the lives of two people.

Mumbai Rains: Two People Lost Their Lives In Vikhroli West

According to an article which was recently published by Mumbai Live, two people have lost their lives after a slab of an under-construction building collapsed. The incident took place near the TATA Power House, Park Site, Vikhroli West at the Kailas Business Park.

Nagesh Reddy, who was 38 years old, and his son Rohit Reddy, who was only 10 years old, were the two people who lost their lives. Upon the collapse of the portion of the building, the fire brigade was called and they rushed to the spot as soon as possible.

The two injured people were rushed to a nearby hospital called Rajawadi Hospital. However, they succumbed to the injuries on the way and were pronounced dead on arrival. This incident highlights the need for safety around under-construction buildings, especially during the rainy season.

The Impact Of The Monsoon Season On The City So Far

Following the bout of rain and thunder, there was waterlogging in a number of areas in Mumbai. This shows that despite everything, the infrastructure of Mumbai still needs much improvement if the city wants to brave the rain without causing inconvenience to its citizens.

The India Meteorological Department or IMD has also issued a yellow alert to the city for today, June 10, 2024. It is prudent for all to take necessary precautions and carry sufficient protective gear against the rain.
