According to an article recently published in Telangana Today, the iconic Flying Ranee Express which plies between Surat and Mumbai will now be upgraded. From the 16th of July, Sunday, the Flying Ranee numbered 12921 and 12922 will have a new avatar.

It will get new LHB rakes which are faster and more comfortable than its predecessor. The new Flying Ranee will be composed of a total of 21 coaches which will have air-conditioned chair cars. Further, there will be second-class seating coaches, a ladies-only coach, and a ladies’ season ticket holders coach in addition to the general coach. However, sadly, it will no longer have the double-decker coaches that it was known to have.

The distance between the two cities is 265 kilometres and the Flying Ranee flies this distance in just four hours and 40 minutes which averages at 80 kilometres per hour. It has been described as the Queen Of The Coast and the train was known for its affordability.

This iconic train first began all the way back in 1906. It hasn’t run uninterrupted for the last 117 years. For some reason, it was discontinued in 1914. It restarted in 1934 in December but then, two years later, in 1936 it stopped again.

Then, after the independence of India, it began again in 1950 and has run non-stop since then. For 73 years, it has continued to bring people to and from the two cities.
