India witnessed 1,68,912 new covid cases in the last 24 hours. This is the sixth record rise in seven days, pushing the country’s caseload to over 1.35 crore. The second wave of coronavirus led to 904 new deaths, taking the total death count to 1,70,179. Maharashtra is the worst affected state in India suffering from 63,294 new cases 349 deaths in the last 24 hours. The state is facing a severe hospital bed shortage, where videos of Mumbai’s famous Lilavati Hospital lobby converted into a Covid ward is taking over the internet. Now, to tackle this very issue, Mumbai will once again convert some 4 or 5-star hotels as quarantine centres to curb rising Covid cases. On April 15, BMC approved two 5-star hotels to be used a private hospitals t admit non-critical Covid patients. InterContinental Hotel in Marine Drive and Trident Hotel in Bandra Kurla Complex shall admit non-critical Covid patients.

Mumbai 4-Star and 5-Star Hotels To Be Converted Into Quarantine Centres

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has converted hotels into COVID Care Centres. Moreover, BMC also appointed nodal officers for the efficient functioning of hospitals for Covid positive patients. The Maharashtra government is putting up a brave fight to tackle the rising novel coronavirus infections in Mumbai and the suburban region. And the surging COVID-19 cases, some four-star and five-star hotels in Mumbai and the suburban belt have been activated for quarantine facilities. There are 244 hotels that are as activated as quarantine facilities. According to a Money Control report, this includes one airport hotel, 86 budget hotels, 38 two-star hotels, 56 three-star hotels, 34 four-star hotels and 29 five-star hotels. Around 22 beds in InterContinental Hotel and 20 in Trident Hotel will be made available for Covid patients.

The Per-Day Cost For Quarantine Centres To Be Borne By Patients

Incoming passengers and positive patients shall bear the cost of utilising these quarantine facilities. The per-day cost for quarantine centres in these hotels will vary between ₹1200 to ₹3000 for budget hotels, ₹1750 to ₹3250 for two-star hotels, ₹1800 to ₹3750 in three-star hotels, ₹2500 to ₹4000 in four-star hotels and ₹3500 to ₹4500 in five-star hotels. The Maharashtra capital recorded 9,986 COVID-19 cases and 79 deaths on April 11. Mumbai division, including city and satellite towns, reported 19,953 new cases and 98 fatalities.
