Daily travellers on Mumbai’s Central Railway line may soon witness important changes, as the railway authorities plan to increase the number of air-conditioned (AC) local train services across key routes. Want to know more about it? Scroll down!
Central Railways To Add More AC Local Train Services
As per a report by News18, Central Railway provides 108 AC local services every day. Under the proposed growth, 12 additional AC services will be added, raising the total number of daily AC local trains to 120. Out of the current services, 80 of them operate on the main line.
Instead of introducing entirely new trains, the railway is aiming to convert a select number of existing non-AC local services into AC locals. The change is intended to provide travellers with a more comfortable and enjoyable travel experience, especially during Mumbai’s hot and humid weather conditions.

Railway officials are currently working on a new timetable to adapt to the changes. The updated schedule will determine which current non-AC services will be transformed into AC trains and is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Growing Popularity Of The AC Locals
AC local trains have witnessed growing popularity among Mumbai commuters since their introduction, with demand increasing significantly during the summer months due to improved comfort and reduced overcrowding.
However, the proposed conversion of regular suburban services into AC trains may raise concerns among passengers who depend on non-AC locals for affordable daily travel. Commuter groups are likely to closely monitor the final timetable to understand how the changes will affect service frequency and accessibility.
