Western Line train services in Mumbai will face disruptions as 650-700 train services are cancelled during a 35-day mega block for the sixth line extension. As per a Financial Express report, Western Railway will implement a series of major maintenance blocks on weekends to minimise passenger inconvenience from August 27 to October 6.

This mega block has been put in place to ensure the timely completion of the extension work for the sixth rail line between Goregaon and Kandivali. To complete this 4.5 km stretch, Western Railway (WR) plans to conduct five 10-hour mega blocks on weekends from August 27 to October 6.

As per the report, some long-distance trains will be delayed by 15 to 20 minutes, and suburban services will also be impacted due to this extension work. As per Western Railway’s announcement, 100-140 suburban services will be cancelled, and around 40 services will be short-terminated on weekends. For public convenience, WR plans to schedule most of the work during night hours.

The extension of the sixth line is important to increase capacity, reduce congestion, and improve punctuality for commuters on Western Railways. As per the Financial Express report, trains departing from Bandra Terminus on September 28-29 and October 5-6 will experience delays of 40-45 minutes. This is mainly due to non-interlocking work on the 5th line between Goregaon and Kandivali. Once completed, the sixth line will be further extended to Borivali. This will help create a dedicated corridor for long-distance trains.
