There is so much to look forward to in Mumbai like the 24/7 open malls and theatres, the upcoming London-eye style Ferris Wheel and the latest being the ceremonial drill at the police headquarters of the city. Yes! Mumbai will soon have a Buckingham Palace like ceremonial drill at the police headquarters, which will be on the line of the famous Changing The Guard ceremony. This was announced by the Tourism Minister of Maharashtra, Aaditya Thackeray.

What’s In It?

The Maharashtra Tourism Minister, Aaditya Thackeray stated during an event organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) that the ceremony in Mumbai would be colourful and the Director-General of Police’s office would have the ceremonial drill similar to the one at Buckingham Palace. The government will also be allowing tourists to stroll through the headquarters of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. This is a heritage structure dating back to the colonial era.

The police headquarters where the ceremonial drill will take place is located near the Gateway of India. It has previously housed the state legislature. Thackeray also revealed that the government wants to develop Mumbai as the ‘Gateway to India’. The 700km long coastline of Maharashtra offers incredible tourism potential. Plans are being made to set up night landing facilities in Shirdi, housing the iconic Sai Baba temple. Kolhapur airport will also witness additional parking facilities in the future.

Anil Deshmukh, the Home Minister stated that the ceremonial drill in Mumbai would be an exciting sight to behold for the public and it will be an added attraction for tourists, who visit areas like the Gateway of India and other parts of South Mumbai. Deshmukh further added that this idea was finalized with the Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray during a meeting after their visit to the DGP office.
