In India, ongoing protests have made travel difficult for people in some areas. Delhi recently faced possible entry and exit restrictions at several metro stations, and now a protest has disrupted traffic on a major highway. On Wednesday, October 14, the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway 48 (NH-48) faced traffic disruptions on Wednesday due to an ongoing protest at the Kognoli toll plaza in Karnataka. If you are planning to travel on this route, check the alternative routes you can take!

Why Is Traffic On Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway Disrupted?

People are protesting at the Kognoli toll plaza in Karnataka over sugarcane prices, higher ethanol prices and other related issues. Due to this protest, traffic on the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway has been disrupted. As per News18, travellers use this highway to travel between Mumbai and Pune and Bengaluru, as it connects these cities with other parts of southern India.

To help people travel more easily, the Maharashtra Highway Police issued a travel advisory and recommended alternative routes for vehicles heading towards Belagavi and Bengaluru. As per the advisory, travellers should take alternative routes that pass via Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur districts.

If you’re travelling, the first recommended alternative route passes through Satara, Rahimatpur, Pusesawali, Nevri, Vita, Tasgaon, Miraj, Kagwad, Raibag and Gokak before reaching Belagavi.

The second alternative route passes through Satara, Karad, Peth Naka, Islampur, Ashta, Miraj, Kagwad, Raibag and Gokak. This route also takes travellers to Belagavi.

There is no traffic disruption within Maharashtra. However, people travelling towards Karnataka should plan their journeys and be prepared for delays. Kolhapur Range IG Ranjan Kumar Sharma has asked people to avoid the affected highway unless their travel is necessary.
