Mumbai’s upcoming flyover over the Juhu Vile Parle Development Scheme (JVPD) Circle is expected to open to traffic by December 2027, offering relief to commuters travelling through the busy western suburbs. The 1.75-km flyover is expected to reduce travel time on the route from around 45 minutes during peak hours to approximately 20 minutes.
Mumbai’s Juhu Flyover To Open By December 2027
According to The Indian Express, the ₹460-crore project will allow motorists to bypass at least five congested traffic junctions, including the JVPD Circle. It is expected to benefit commuters travelling through Juhu, Vile Parle West, Andheri West and Versova. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) first announced plans for the flyover in 2022 to ease congestion around the JVPD Circle. The elevated corridor will begin near the end of the CD Barfiwala Flyover and extend to the Juhu-Versova Link Road, connecting two busy routes in the western suburbs.

The flyover is also planned to connect to an arm of the upcoming Versova-Bandra Sea Link, providing direct connectivity to the coastal road network. The proposed flyover will be 1.75 km long and 15.10 metres wide. Once operational, it is expected to reduce the number of traffic signals and junctions commuters encounter along the route, helping them save time during peak hours.
Construction Challenges And Project Deadline
The project involves several engineering challenges, including installing girders beneath a metro station using specialised technology and constructing a 72-metre-long bridge at the 90 Feet Junction. The civic body also needs to relocate existing drainage infrastructure. This includes shifting 600-mm and 900-mm-diameter drains over a distance of 400 metres, as well as relocating a 1,200-mm-diameter drain through microtunnelling. The construction also requires a long-span structure with minimal pillars at the JVPD Circle.

The current deadline for the project is December 31, 2027, brought forward from the earlier target of March 31, 2028. Commenting on the expected benefits, Abhijit Bangar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) at the BMC, told the portal that the flyover would reduce travel time from around 45 minutes to 20 minutes during peak hours. He added that the project would ease road congestion in Juhu, Vile Parle West, Andheri West and Versova, while improving transport efficiency across Mumbai’s western suburbs.
