Mumbaikars! If your daily commute requires you to travel on the Western Line, brace yourself! In the ten days between October 24 and November 4, local train services on the Western Line will be severely disrupted. This disruption comes as a result of the addition of a sixth line in the Western Railway between Goregaon and Khar. Train services on Western Railway, consequently, will be significantly impacted. Here’s all you need to know about this inconveniencing news.

400 Cancellations, 250 Delays And More On Western Line

The work for operationalising the sixth line has already begun. According to an article recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, the work began on October 7. The effect of the work has already been witnessed. Around ten trains were delayed and two were cancelled.

The worst, however, is yet to come. Between October 25 and November 4, severe snags in services are expected. From October 25 to 27, around 330 cancellations, 250 delays, and 80 partial cancellations of trains are expected. On October 28 and 29, 400 cancellations, 200 delays and 20 partial cancellations will take place.

Between October 30 and November 1, 200 cancellations, 100 delays and 12 partial cancellations are to be expected. Finally, between November 2 and 4, 100 cancellations, 50 delays and 20 partial cancellations are expected.

Your Work Commute To Get Tougher In October

Travelling via local trains on the aforementioned dates is surely going to be a pain. However, it is only temporary and once this infrastructure work is completed, services will improve. After the completion of the sixth line, there will be a complete separation between the express and mail trains, and Suburban trains.

After the extension of the line is completed till Borivali, train services will increase by 20 per cent.

3,100 Suburban Trains And 260 Long-Distance Trains To Be Disrupted

Including the 10-day period where the impact will be the worst, the block is for a total of 29 days starting on October 7. In these 29 days, a total of 3,100 suburban train services will be disrupted, according to an article recently published by the Hindustan Times. In addition to this, the article also mentioned that around 260 long-distance trains will also be affected.

It should also be noted that platform 9 of Andheri Station will be closed on the intervening night between October 19 and 20. Additionally, there will be a mega block for 24 hours at the Bandra Terminus from 9 PM on November 19 to 9 PM on November 20. The cut-and-connect of railway tracks will take place.
