New Bridge From Dadar To Mahim Will Cut Travel Time Within Mumbai

A new bridge will be built over the Mahim Causeway which will run between the fisherman colony of Mahim and the Western Express Highway (WEH). As part of the coastal road project, from Dadar to Mahim via the Bandra end of the Bandra-Worli sea link will reduce travel times in Mumbai. The bridge has two arms of 512 and 319 meters. The cost is estimated at ₹ 140-150 crore.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed to build a bridge at Mahim’s end of Senapati Bapat Road. With an intention to seamlessly connect Dadar West and Mahim to the coastal road via Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Due to traffic jams, access to the sea link or the WEH from Senapati Bapat Road in Mahim takes about 30 minutes for just a 1 km route.

The 10.58km coastal road, touted as a mega-project to ease traffic along the highway between the western suburbs and the island city, is expected to be completed by November 2023. Currently, more than 50% of his work is completed. The total cost of the project is ₹ 12,700 and the construction cost is ₹ 8,429.

New Bridge To Reduce Travel Time

This saves at least 30 minutes of travel time during peak hours. The new bridge will provide additional connectivity for long-distance commuters from Dadar and Mahim to Nariman Point. By opening Senapati Bapat Road and SV Road to local traffic.

This project is in the planning stage and requires regulatory and environmental clearances before issuing a work order. If all goes according to plan, construction of the bridge can begin after the monsoon.  BMC’s Bridges Division official said, “The area where the piers are planned falls under the coastal control zone.”
