New Yorkers Get A New Sun Bathing Spot! Manhattan To Get Its First Public Beach

Manhattan, one of the most densely populated areas of New York, is finally getting a public beach. This commercial and financial centre is surrounded by water yet doesn’t have a place for people to spend a relaxing holiday. But this is soon going to change as the Gansevoort Peninsula will host Manhattan’s first public beach. Take a look at this new project that every New Yorker is waiting for.

This commercial centre of New York will finally have a riverside retreat on its shore and will be the first public beach. James Corner Field Operations (JCFO) is responsible for this marvellous creation. They are ready to open this new beach to the public in the coming summer. According to an architect of JCFO, people want to take their shirts off and relax on the beach. And through this project, they will get a chance to have a relaxing place on holidays.

The whole setup will be turned into a green oasis with kayakers and small boaters getting access to the southern side of the peninsula. Moreover, the place is apt to lounge and enjoy the gorgeous view of the River Hudson. There will be an art installation by artist David Hammons called ‘Day’s End’. However, the place won’t allow swimming, but people can take sunbathes and have a fun-filled day at this public beach.

The Hudson River Park Trust had brought attention to this piece of land and proposed the concept of turning it into a site for public entertainment. After which, three constructive Requests for Proposals were issued. The James Corner Field Operations were the ones who designed the place and kick-started the construction. Now, the people of New York will have a great outing place in the heart of the Big Apple. The project cost around seventy million dollars.
