No Chai-Coffee Or Vada Pav, Pune’s Summer Heat Is Impacting Street Vendors’ Business Terribly

The summer season and its extreme heat are simply intolerable this year. Most parts of India are suffering through this extreme rise in temperature. No one is really stepping out of their houses during the daylight unless it is necessary to go outside. Pune is one of the Indian cities that is experiencing such heat and a sweaty summery season. This unbearable weather is turning out to be a major disappointment for most street food stalls and vendors. Most people do not want to eat the oily bahaar ka khaana or sip on a cup of garam chai or coffee.

Pune street food stalls are known for serving the most delectable vada pav, keema pav, misal pav, dabeli, and more such dishes loaded with spices and oil. Though these food items are very popular among foodies, the number of customers visiting the food stalls and eateries is taking a dip this summer season. Most Indians cannot even think of passing a day without sipping on cups and cups of chai. But now even tea stalls are seeing less number of people than usual times. It seems like the entire city wants to take escape from food items that can make them feel hot.

According to a report by the Indian Express, a tea stall vendor shared that people are not interested in drinking tea at the moment. He talked about how he is buying a lesser quantity of milk as the customers are getting lesser than before. Interestingly, this is the first time that he is seeing such a decrease in tea and coffee drinkers at his shop.

The Indian Express report also added that people have purchasing stopped vada pav and such deep-fried food items to a huge extent. A vada pav seller shared how the number of sales turns down south in the summer season. Not just the heat, another reason for a drop in sales is the summer holidays in schools.
