The Indian Ministry of Textiles, in collaboration with the brand solution firm Cab Experiences, organised the One Bharat Sari Marathon. The event honoured the Indian handloom industry and recognised the cultural, social, and economic significance of the traditional saree. The ‘One Bharat Sari Walkathon’ was formally opened by Union Minister of Textiles Piyush Goyal, who made a lighthearted allusion to a recent social media fad by calling the participants “so elegant, so beautiful, just looking like a wow.”

With the shared objective of promoting cultural variety and harmony, ladies greeted and interacted with one another at the lively, contagious grins and togetherness-filled event. Under the direction of Hon’ble MP Smt. Poonam Mahajan, the event was masterfully executed in Mumbai and was the brainchild of Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways & Textiles, Smt. Darshna Jardosh.

In a walkathon that exuded pride and dignity, participants from all walks of life came together to commemorate the unwavering spirit of Indian women. Wearing sarees that symbolised several Indian states and were dressed in a variety of eye-catching ways, the participants highlighted the rich history of this traditional dress, signifying a cultural thread that has been cherished by many generations of women.

Many well-known celebrities and powerful people graced the event to support this noble cause and encourage the women’s attitude of participation. Shaina NC, Anita Dongre, Sonali Bendre, Sonali Kulkarni, Faye D’Souza, Rupali Ganguly, Falguni Pathak, Yasmin Karachiwala, Rouble Nagi, and Dolly Jain were among those present.

Every participant added to the significance of the event by demonstrating their dedication to cultural pride and solidarity in addition to their physical prowess during the walkathon. The event was also a huge success thanks to the Mumbai Police’s unwavering support.

Female Nashik Dhol Performers At The Event

As the event took place in the streets of BKC, forty female Nashik Dhol performers welcomed the attendees and used ambient music to create a lively, joyful atmosphere. As the audience entered the space, the mood was set for an exciting day. Yasmin Karachiwala then led a vigorous warm-up to get everyone ready for the next round of activities. The EMCEE then mounted the stage and gave dignitaries and celebrities a hearty welcome.

The event went on with a powerful speech by Hon’ble MP Smt. Poonam Mahajan bridged the gap between the stage and the crowd with an interactive, entertaining session with the dignitaries and celebrities. Dolly Jain then demonstrated the versatility and modernism of the sari on two young ladies by wrapping them in a variety of creative ways.

The One Bharat Sari Walkathon was launched with great zeal by the dignitaries. And the participants went out for a lively stroll. Smt. Poonam Mahajan gave a succinct but sincere vote of thanks to everyone who had contributed to the event. After that, everyone had refreshments, which promoted a sense of community and togetherness.

Dignitaries attended the Gandhi Shilp Bazar Exhibition, during the day’s activities that went beyond the main event. Concurrently, an instructional and participatory workshop on Sari Draping was conducted by NIFT Mumbai.
