For most people, getting abused is a bad day at work. For RJ Naved, it’s practically part of the job description. The voice behind Mirchi Murga has spent years pulling off some of India’s most memorable radio pranks, catching unsuspecting people off guard with impeccable timing and an even better poker face. But during Curly Tales’ Tere Gully Mein, while we wandered through his picturesque village home, tucked between fruit-laden mango and lychee trees and tucked into delicious desi murge ke kebab, the conversation went somewhere completely hilarious and bizarre.

‘Sun Nahi Raha’: The Funny Trick That Keeps RJ Naved Calm

We had one question that almost every listener has secretly wondered about. When a prank goes a little too well, and the person on the other end explodes with abuse, what does RJ Naved actually do? Does he argue back? Laugh it off? Lose his cool after hanging up?

His answer wasn’t something anyone in the room saw coming. “I’ve been doing this since childhood,” he said with a grin before demonstrating it right there. The moment the abuse begins, he slips off his headphones, starts saying, “Sun nahi raha..sun nahi raha..sun nahi raha…” and blows raspberries, almost like a mischievous little kid who has decided he simply isn’t going to participate in the drama anymore.

It looks ridiculous and sounds ridiculous. And yet, it works like a charm. Naved explained that this tiny ritual instantly disconnects him from the anger coming through the call. Instead of sitting there and absorbing every insult, he creates his own little bubble for a few seconds.

Why His Childlike Ritual Still Works After Years Of Prank Calls

That’s fascinating because radio prank calls aren’t as effortless as they appear. Listeners only hear the funny bits. They don’t hear every angry outburst, every personal remark or every frustrated reaction that comes with deliberately pushing someone’s buttons for entertainment. After doing this for years, it would be easy for anyone to become cynical or emotionally exhausted.

Yet Naved has chosen the most unexpected defence mechanism imaginable: not toughness, not aggression, not pretending the words don’t matter. Instead, he answers negativity with something almost childlike.

Maybe that’s also why his on-air personality has stayed so warm after all these years. There is mischief in the way he approaches people, but very little malice. Even when someone loses their temper, he refuses to carry that anger with him once the moment is over.
