If you’re someone who had been ordering food from outside amid lockdown, here is a news that might get you worried. A delivery boy from a renowned pizza chain in South Delhi has tested COVID-19 positive, and the members of all 72 houses where he had delivered pizzas have been quarantined. He had 16 colleagues in the outlet, who too are at isolation now. Read on to know the details.

What Exactly Happened?

The delivery boy had been working for a pizza outlet in Malviya Nagar, near Saket. After his reports came out, the authorities immediately started monitoring all those who came in contact with him. He is undergoing treatment now and thankfully, all of his 16 co-workers have negative results. The restaurant was also delivering pizzas through the food delivery app Zomato. Now, as a precautionary measure, the outlet has suspended all its operations. Also, the families that had ordered food from the outlet are under strict supervision.

What Else?

District Magistrate B.M. Mishra informed that there was no need to panic as he had instructed all delivery boys to wear masks and follow the necessary safety measures. As per WHO reports, there have been no cases of transmission of the virus through food till date. As informed, COVID-19 is ‘thermolabile’ ( something that is destroyed by heat) i.e. it cannot survive at normal cooking temperatures. However, it can be present on surfaces like cardboard or plastic. Thus, it is advisable to sanitize the food packages before opening them. Also, one should not touch the face while handling the packages.

Keeping in mind the current situation, it’s best to rely on home food now. However, if you at all have to order, do make sure to follow the right safety measures. Try to get your food only from trusted eateries and always opt for ‘no contact delivery‘. Last but not the least, wash your hands for 20 seconds before you start eating the meal.
