Rajasthan Launches ‘Night Sky’ Astro-Tourism For Stargazing

If you are someone who enjoys sky-gazing then, Rajasthan has a treat for you. A state which is the largest in India and is known as the ‘Land of Maharajas’ has introduced ‘Night Sky Astro-tourism’. In the last two years, a new travel trend called ‘Astro-tourism’ has emerged. The pandemic did not allow people for international travel and that led to this emergence. In India, Rajasthan became the first state to introduce Night Sky Astro-Tourism in all 33 districts of the state. Located in the state’s capital, Jaipur itself has four popular venues for stargazing: Jantar Mantar, Amber Fort, University of Maharaja and Jawahar Kala Kendra.

Enjoy Stargazing At Jantar Mantar And Amber Fort

State Department of Art and Culture introduced a ‘Night Sky Tourism Project’. This was done to introduce sky-gazing among the tourists and encourage them for the same. They had telescopes set up at Jawahar Kala Kendra and Jantar Mantar. The first phase of ‘Night Sky Astro-Tourism’ is to set up telescopes at Jantar Mantar, Amber Fort, University of Maharaja and Jawahar Kala Kendra.

Rajasthan Will Release The Dates Of Stargazing

Mughda Sinha, secretary of the Rajasthan’s Department of Science and Technology got inspired by the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. At the secretariat, the department held stargazing nights and received a good response from the officials. Soon, a lot of recommendations walked in and the idea was adopted by Rajasthan’s chief minister Ashok Ghelot. The dates will be decided depending upon the calendars of the sky. The state also plans to launch astrophotography workshops in the future.
