Saudi Arabia is getting its first museum of modern art. Yes, the Saudi Museum for Modern Art in JAX, which is SAMoCA is coming up in Riyadh’s upcoming Arts District. JAX Diriyah is said to be inaugurated on November 1, Wednesday and the inaugural exhibition will be showcasing the International Biennial of Contemporary Art of the South – Bienalsur.

It was recently revealed that the Saudi Museum of Modern Art at JAX will be opening in the heart of Diriyah. This is happening as early as this week and it is an important development, as it marks a step towards contemporary art. Promoting the art form and thereby, empowering artists in the kingdom, this development is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Ministry of Culture to make Saudi Vision 2030 a reality. Moreover, it aims to serve as a vibrant meeting point for the growing contemporary art community in the kingdom which will also provide a place where artists can share dialogue, expression, and creative exploration, according to a report by the Saudi Gazette.

This Will Be The Nation’s First Museum Of Modern Art

As it happens, this big development was also announced by Saudi Arabia, Ministry of Culture. They also announced the opening date on their official account on X. It’s worth mentioning that it’s also a preliminary step that aims at establishing the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art in Diriyah towards becoming one of the kingdom’s largest and most ambitious collecting institutions. Not to mention, this is a big deal as this is also the country’s first museum of modern art.

As it happens, artworks of more than 400 artists from over 25 nations will be showcased at the International Biennial of Contemporary Art of the South – Bienalsur. This is also the inaugural exhibition at SAMoCA at JAX. Yes, in the heart of Diriyah, you will get to see some spectacular exhibitions and art installations. Not to mention, the Ministry of Culture hosting Bienalsur for the third time! With its commitment to presenting the best contemporary art practices and enriching the cultural and artistic landscape of Saudi Arabia in the process, this event is certainly something that art enthusiasts must check out.
