Shri Aniruddhacharya Opens About His Journey From Jabalpur To Becoming A Renowned Spiritual Leader

In the latest episode of Sunday Brunch With Kamiya Jani, we spent a deeply reflective day with Shri Aniruddhacharya, aka Pookie Baba, at the Gauri Gopal Ashram in Vrindavan. Most people go to Vrindavan searching for peace, blessings, or a few quiet hours away from regular life. Pookie Baba’s story is different, as he went there, left, and then came back because he felt the city still had work for him to do.

Pookie Baba Shares Why Vrindavan Called Him Back

Kamiya Jani met more than 300 elderly women living at the ashram, all of whom are cared for there with dignity and consistency. She also witnessed the 24/7 akhand rasoi, a kitchen that runs continuously, feeding people with discipline and devotion. Later, she also shared a satvik bhojan with Swamiji.

Then came the part that gave the episode its soul. Kamiya asked Pookie Baba if he had always belonged to Vrindavan. Had he grown up there? Was he always meant to stay in this sacred town?

His answer was no. He stated that he was born in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and Vrindavan is not his birthplace. It became his calling later. He first came there in 2006 to study and eventually returned. But the story did not end there.

As he explained, Banke Bihari Ji made him feel there was still something waiting for him in Vrindavan. Something unfinished and useful!

He noticed that the city receives a huge number of visitors, pilgrims, and tourists. Faith arrives in buses, trains, and crowded lanes every single day. But with that comes a very practical issue, which is food. For many people, finding proper meals could become difficult. Pookie Baba looked at that problem and saw responsibility. If something was lacking, why not build the answer?

Pookie Baba Explains His Connection With Vrindavan

When Kamiya Jani, our editor-in-chief, asked why he chose Vrindavan specifically, he gave the kind of reply that sounds simple until it sinks in. He said he had studied there. He had received from this place. So naturally, he felt he should give something back.

He also spoke about the spiritual pull of the town, saying there is something special in the soil of Vrindavan itself. That the land carries the divine presence and flow of Lord Krishna.

And then, in a moment that felt straight out of another era, he sang a verse in praise of Vrindavan’s glory, describing it as a city of love whose true identity is known only to lovers of the divine.

Vrindavan ki mahima pyaare koi naa jaane,

Prem nagariya mann mohan ki premi pehchaane.”

Some people inherit purpose, some discover it late, and Pookie Baba seems like someone who heard it calling from a city and answered.
