According to an article which was recently published by livemint, the Maharashtra Bhawan will be constructed in the Budgam region of Kashmir. As per a report by The Indian Express cited in the livemint article, a total of 2.5 acres of land in Budgam’s Ichgam will be given for it.

The Bhawan will be a tourist facility for visitors from the state. The land is quite close to the Srinagar Airport which will make it easier for tourists to travel to the Bhawan. For a total of ₹8.16 crores, the government of J&K has approved the transfer of land.

Eknath Shinde, who is the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, initiated the purchase of this land in June 2023. The Maharashtra government is also planning on constructing another Maharashtra Bhawan in Ayodhya.

A total ₹77 crore has been allocated for the construction of these two Bhawans in Kashmir and Ayodhya respectively. These two Bhawans are being constructed with the aim of providing “better facilities” to devotees and tourists alike.

This wouldn’t have been possible prior to the abrogation of Article 370. Only the people who were permanent residents of the Union Territory could purchase land in the state. However, the government could still lease land to industries for up to 99 years.
