6 Stunning Nature Spots In UAE That Should Be On Your Bucket List

The lands of the Emirates run so much deeper than just their malls and restaurants. The country, peaking with hidden gems is a must visit for every nature lover. We struggled to narrow it down, but here are some of the best nature excursions the United Arab Emirates has to offer.

1. Jubail Mangrove Park

The Jubail Mangrove park is a stunning mangrove sanctuary where you can take a stroll on a meandering boardwalk to witness some exciting views of nature. Choose one of three routes, with the shortest at 1km, and the longest at 2km long. The trail even includes a floating platform with a see-through net where you can catch a glimpse of the marine life swimming below you, a viewing tower, and a beach platform where you can get your feet wet. Look for the different types of birds, fish and crabs, and look down into the clear water with its unblocked views of mangrove roots and marine life. They’ve also created a play area for children, viewing terraces for great family photos and kayaking as well.

2. Wadi Shawka

Explore the wild mountainside with your family and enjoy hiking trails, cycle paths, natural pools and camping spots. The best time to go is during the cooler winter months as there is a chance for multiple and larger pools of water.

3. Umm Al Quwain Wetlands

The emirate of Umm al-Quwain is one of the best indicators of what the UAE used to look like. It has been built near a bright blue lagoon surrounded by little islands. These islands are perfect locations for bird watchers and all around nature enthusiasts. The wetlands are perfect to explore by boat or kayak.

4. Fossil Dunes Abu Dhabi

Just a short 30 minute drive out of Abu Dhabi’s city centre, you’ll find gorgeous fossil dunes shaped throughout the years by deserts winds. The dunes are accessible throughout the day but for some amazing shots, head there during sunrise and sunset. You can access some dunes with a saloon car, however, a 4×4 is best if you want to explore the dunes further into the desert. You can even set up camp and light a fire after you get tired of all the fun. There is also a huge red dune there that will be great for buggying and perhaps sand boarding.

Tip: Access Fossil Rock from Mleiha side as the road on the other side is covered in sand dunes.

5. Jebel Jais

The UAE’s highest peak, Jebel Jais, is part of the Hajar mountains that were formed over 70 million years ago in the eastern part of Ras Al Khaimah and Oman. Towering at 1,934 meters above sea level, Jebel Jais has amazing views, thrilling adventures, and has temperatures around ten degrees cooler than sea level.

6. Hatta Dam

This stunning turquoise dam is less than a two-hour drive from Dubai. Surrounded by rocky mountains, you’ll enjoy some spectacular views along the way. The hiking on this rocky landscape is seriously recommended, and if you don’t fancy a hike and just to lounge in the lap of nature, pack a picnic.
