Summer Travel With Children: Everything You Must Know About Vaccine And PCR Test

Tourism around the world is opening slowly for vaccinated travellers. And vaccinated UAE-ites too can now travel to over 19 countries with their families. While adults have to show their vaccine certificates, it’s the children that have to present a covid-19 test result now and then. And if you too are planning to travel with a child this summer, then here are all the rules for children that you must know.

Is Covid-19 Vaccine Approved For Children?

Coronavirus vaccine is approved for children recently, but a big chunk of young haven’t been vaccinated yet. The UAE approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine for kids aged between 12 and 15 in May. It means that kids over 12 can now take the vaccine in the UAE. However, unvaccinated kids can still travel with their vaccinated parents.

What Are The Requirements For Kids?

Even though the kids don’t need a vaccine to enter countries, the requirements for each country are different and change regularly. Here’s everything you must know.

What Are The Rules For Kids In Europe? 

In Cyprus, kids below 12 are exempt from taking a covid test before or after landing. Whereas, for Greece, children over the age of six will have to show a negative PCR Test taken up to 72 hours before boarding the flight. And on arrival, adults and children will also be subjected to random testing. 

For Spain, children aged below six don’t need to take a covid test. Whereas- all other non-vaccinated travellers should take a PCR Test 48 hours before boarding. In France, children below 11 years need not take a PCR Test before boarding the flight. However, one must note that the Sinopharm vaccine is not approved in France. 

In Italy, infants up to two years old are exempt from taking the tests. All other travellers from the UAE should take a test at least 48 hours before boarding the flight and on arrival. 

What Are The Rules For Kids In Russia? 

For Russia, all non-citizens, both adults and children, should present a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival.

What Are The Rules For Kids In The Middle East? 

In Turkey, kids aged six years below need not take a PCR test. However, others must take a PCR Test not more than 72 hours before arrival. There could be random testing in Turkey. For Jordan, Children below five don’t need a test at all. Children under 12 need not take a test for Lebanon and Egypt. And for Bahrain, children under six are exempted from the test. 

What Are The Rules For Kids In Asia? 

For Seychelles, all travellers, irrespective of their age and vaccination status, will have to present a negative PCR test. They need not take a test for the second time on arrival. From July 2, children under 12- travelling to Phuket don’t need a test. Passengers between 12 and 17 years can take a rapid antigen test on arrival at Hong Kong airport at their own expense. For the Maldives, only infants less than a year are exempt from taking the pre‑arrival PCR test.

What Are The Rules For Kids In Africa? 

For Kenya, kids below five are exempt from taking the test. In Tanzania, children below 10 don’t require a PCR Test both while boarding the flight and all arrival. Besides that, everyone aged-10 and above needs to take a test on arrival.

What Are The Rules For Kids In The US & Mexico? 

Kids over two are required to take the PCR test within 72 hours before departure to the US. Those younger than two can travel freely. There is no test on arrival. For Mexico, there are no covid-test requirements.
