The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Is Closed For Traffic: Know These Alternate Routes

The Jammu-Srinagar national highway is closed for vehicles for a few consecutive days. The NH-44 is shut because of the shooting stones at the Mehad Ramban area. Authorities took the decision to stop vehicular traffic on this national highway. And to ease the travelling situation for commuters, they can take these alternate routes till the concerned Traffic Control Unit confirms to travel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway once again.

Jammu & Kashmir Traffic Police Is Keeping Everyone Updated

The Jammu & Kasmir traffic police are posting about the conditions on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on their official Twitter account. They first informed about this shooting stones situation on Wednesday. According to their recent tweet, the NH-44 is still blocked. ‘Traffic update at 0630 hrs Traffic plying on Mughal road, SSG road closed in view of maintenance and repair. However, Jammu -Srinagar NHW is still blocked. People are advised not to travel on Jammu -Srinagar NHW without confirmation from TCU Jammu/Srinagar/Ramban’, Jammu and Kashmir traffic police tweeted just 3 hours before.

These Are The Alternate Routes For The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway:

Tourists in Jammu & Kashmir have been advised to visit the Kashmir Valley anytime between 7 am and 6 pm. They should plan the day in such a way that they can travel to the destination by 6 pm. If anyone fails to do so, they have to spend the night at the closest lodgements.

For Heavy Motor Vehicles:

  • They can travel towards Srinagar from Minamarg anytime between 7:30 am to 11:30 am.
  • They can travel toward Kargil from Sonamarg from 1 pm to 7 pm.
  • Lastly, they are not allowed to drive anytime between 7 pm to 5 am.

For Light Motor Vehicles and Private Cars:

  • They can travel towards Srinagar from Minamarg anytime between 6:30 am to 12 pm.
  • They can travel toward Sonamarg from Minamarg till 5 pm.
  • To travel from Sonamarg to Kargil, the time is 5 am to 5 pm.
  • Lastly, they are not allowed to drive beyond after 3 pm.

SSG Road:

  • Transportation is allowed on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road. This movement is allowed from both sides from Srinagar towards Kargil and Kargil to Srinagar (subject to fair weather and good road condition).

Mughal Road:

  • Light motor vehicles will be allowed on this road from both sides. For heavy motor vehicles, they are allowed to travel towards Poonch from Srinagar on this road (subject to fair weather and good road condition).
