The Wankaner Palace is officially called Ranjit Vilas Palace and is home to the royal family of Wankaner (former princely state). Spread across an area of 225 acres, this palace is situated on top of Gadhio Hill. The estate also houses a garage, British Residency, bungalows and a stable for horses!

The construction of this palace was started in 1907 and the architecture is a mix of Mughal, Rajput, Venetian-Gothic and Italianate styles. The palace features jharokha balconies, a Venetian-Gothic facade, gothic arches, Doric columns and other interesting architectural elements. In addition to this, the palace has a clock tower and an Italianate marble fountain in the garden. The entire palace is decorated with teak furniture, chandeliers, marble flooring and one of the largest collections of hunting trophies.

The Set Of ‘Gaslight’!

The new film and psychological thriller ‘Gaslight’ starring Sara Ali Khan and Vikrant Massey is shot in this palace. The movie was shot in thirty-six days as they were on a tight schedule. According to the director of the film, it was easier to shoot in such a short time as they had done a lot of prep and the plot had limited locations.

Along with this, he conducted workshops with all the actors, especially Sara Ali Khan, Vikrant Massey and Chitrangada Singh. He gave credit to the actors for taking the maximum effort and finishing the work on time.

But this wasn’t the only film shot here! Apparently, the satirical comedy ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ was also filmed at this location. The palace is truly beautiful and worth a visit!
