There’s A 100-Year-Old Ancestral House Of The Ambanis & You Can Visit It Too!

Although Antilla is the world’s most expensive house after Buckingham Palace, for the Ambani family, their ancestral house in Gujarat still holds a special place. The house is over 100 years old and has a rich cultural heritage. The house is now a memorial called ‘The Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial House.’

Despite the many lavish homes the Ambani family owns, they still hold a special place in their heart for their ancestral home in the small village of Chorwad, Gujarat. With lush green gardens, the house is a beautiful example of traditional Gujarati architecture.

It is said that the house was originally built by Mukesh Ambani’s grandfather and has been passed down through the generations. It’s an architectural marvel, with a unique blend of traditional elements and modern amenities. However, the old building had been restored. The landscape design and restoration was led by Amitabh Teaotia Designs whilst the building restoration was conducted by Abhikram, a leading restorative architectural company.

The design of the house is such that it allows natural light and air to flow freely, keeping the interiors cool and comfortable. The house also has a large courtyard that has been restored to its former glory with some additional features that help recreate the original grandeur of the estate and gardens.

The space is actually split into two parts with one being for private use which Kokilaben Ambani still visits. The other area is open to the public and thus has a separate entry and exit point. The garden is further divided into a public garden and 2 private areas – a courtyard and a coconut palm grove.

Re-inaugurated in 2011, the house has served as a home to the Ambani family for many years and is a source of pride and joy for them. It’s a reminder of their long family history and their commitment to the region’s culture and traditions.

The ancestral house is now open for tourists all days of the week except Monday. You can visit it from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Some even say that the memorial has a cafeteria and a souvenir shop. There are reports that tell that the entry fee for tourists is just ₹2.
