So, while checking in to a hotel with your pet, do keep in mind these 6 important things.
1. Research About Pet-Friendly Hotels, Restaurants & Vets In Your Destination
When you plan a vacation, don’t you research the best hotels, eateries and sightseeing spots in your destination? Well, that’s exactly what you must do for your pets as well. Firstly, research thoroughly about pet-friendly hotels, restaurants and activities in the vicinity. Pet-friendly restaurants will give you the chance to dine with your pet away from the hotel premises. Restaurants like these offer outdoor seating, serve pet food which will be a comfortable space for pets apart from the hotel room. More importantly, find out if there’s a veterinary hospital located near the hotel you’d be checking in to. In case of any emergencies, you can always get help for your pet in due time. 2. Find Out If You Can Leave The Pet Alone In The Room
While pet-friendly hotels welcome pets wholeheartedly, some hotels explicitly request them not to be left unattended in a room. Do find out from the hotel beforehand if you can leave your pet alone in the room. If the hotel doesn’t permit this, then you’d have to take your furry companion to pet-friendly restaurants for meals and sightseeing. In case the hotel permits you to leave your pet unattended in a room, then figure out if your pet is used to being left alone in your home. If it’s the first time you’re staying in a hotel with your pet, then it’s better if you don’t leave it unattended. Leaving your pet alone in a room, in a foreign location can be quite an overwhelming situation for the poor animal. 3. Enquire About Pet Fee & Any Restrictions
There are many hotels and hotel chains that permit pets to stay for free. On the other hand, there are hotels, particularly luxury ones that charge an exorbitant fee for pets. Commonly, pet fees are charged per night per pet. But there are hotels that charge a specific amount depending on the additional cleaning charges that occur at the end of your stay. This can be quite expensive if you stay for one night but relatively reasonable if you stay for a week. Inquire if the hotel you wish to book will charge you pet fees. Apart from this find out if there are any pet restrictions. For instance, most hotels only allow cats or dogs on the premises. They might also put a restriction on the weight, the number of pets per room or breed. Be honest about these things and ask the hotel if you can bring your: 1 Daschund weighing 7.5 kg?

4. Bring Pets That Are Vaccinated, House Trained & Free Of Fleas
Now that you’ve figured out everything there is about your pet-friendly hotel, here’s where you need to take responsibility. How would you like a guest at your home to urinate right in the middle of your bedroom? Can you imagine an awful situation where an unvaccinated pet bites a fellow guest? Or another scenario, what if a pet infected with fleas enters a hotel, and spreads it to other pets? These are horrific situations, that you just wouldn’t want to even imagine as a pet parent. In order to not bring inconvenience to the hotel staff, guests and your pets, make sure you get vaccinated, house trained and flea-free pets into the hotel.
5. Get Your Pet’s Blankets & Bowls To Make It Comfortable
Your pet will certainly feel more at home when they eat the same food, from the same bowl and sleep in their own bed with their cosy blanket. Staying in a strange location like a hotel room can be quite daunting for your pet, especially for the first time. So bringing along your pet’s favourite things, and keeping them the same, will make your pet feel more comfortable. Moreover getting your pet’s bed along, will not tempt them to jump on the hotel bed. If your pet likes to sleep with you on the bed, then get a sheet and place it on the bed. In this way, the hotel’s bedspread won’t get furry or dirty. You can also use the food, bowls and bed provided by the hotels for your pets. Do this only if you know your pet will be absolutely comfortable.

6. Keep Barking To A Minimum
Just like you can’t expect a child to be quiet at all times, you cannot expect a dog to be either. It’s unrealistic, right? But while staying in a hotel, try to keep your dog’s barking to a minimum. If the barking continues for long, it might disturb other guests who might even issue a complaint. Find out what triggers your dog and make sure it is comfortable. You can also request the reception for a quiet room at the corner, away from the lift or bar. Your dog might bark when it listens to external noises. If a hotel has reviews about paper-thin walls and lots of noise, just opt for another hotel.
Pet parents, these are some of the essentials you must keep in mind when you get your pet to a hotel. Don’t forget to have an amazing time with your furry companion!
