Think Twice Before Taking These Most Dangerous Roads In Himachal Pradesh

A trip to the mountains is one of the most blissful experiences of a traveller’s life. Exploring the mountain regions, indulging in authentic foods and trying out adventurous activities, relaxing, and rejuvenating in splendid weather is what a trip to the mountain is all about. But the road to it is definitely not closer to the experience of travelling mountains. Himachal Pradesh might be extremely beautiful but it has so many of the most dangerous roads. Crossing these roads is important if you want to reach a specific destination and hence excessive precautions are necessary while driving on these roads. Here are the most dangerous roads in Himachal Pradesh where you should think twice before driving.

1. Rohtang Pass

Rohtang Pass is an extremely risky Road located at 4000 m. The stretch is about 51 km away from Manali and is one of the most touristy destinations in Himachal Pradesh. The place stays very crowded during the touristy months but with the change in weather, this road gets risky. Due to snowfall and difficult weather this road stays closed during the winter season.

2. Sangla-Chitkul Valley Road

Starting from almost 45 km away from Chitkul, Sangla-Chitkul is one of the most dangerous roads in Himachal Pradesh. Running beside the river Baspa, the first 20 km of the road features magnificent views and is not that difficult. Still, it takes almost 1.5 hours as the road gets narrow with time. The rest part of the road towards Chitkul is simply horrible. With every passing kilometre, the road conditions worsen and lead to dangerous movements.

3. Manali-Kaza Highway

If one treacherous road wasn’t enough, the Manali-Kaza highway covers 2 dreadful passes; Rohtang pass and Kunzum pass. The stretch is deadly dangerous to pass and remains closed during the winter season. The condition of the stretch worsens more with the extreme water flow. Only an experienced driver can cover this route. In fact, everyone avoids this road not only in the winter season but also during the monsoon and at night.

4. National Highway 22

This list of the most dangerous roads would have remained incomplete without the inclusion of the National Highway 22. Starting at Ambala and then leading towards Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, people often name this road the Highway To Hell. The name clearly is justified because of the horrible conditions of the highway. To travel on this road, one needs to overcome mountains, cover cliffs, and move through dark tunnels. The condition of this road is simply terrible and passing it takes a lot of risk and courage.

5. Kinnaur Road

Kinnaur is such a beautiful destination but the Kinnaur road is one of the most dangerous roads in the state. Dark holes, passing cliffs, and terrible conditions make the experience of driving on this road horrendous. The smallest mistake while driving on this road can lead to an enormous accident. People losing lives on this road is not at all horrifying anymore as it is something that happens quite regularly. During the winter season, the snowfall here is quite heavy and that’s why the road remains closed.
