74-year-old Pataabi Raman is no ordinary auto driver. He is in fact a former English lecturer at a Mumbai college. After his retirement, he moved back to his hometown in Karnataka 14 years ago. With no pension after working in a private institution, Raman became an auto driver in Bangalore to earn his bread and butter. Raman’s story created headlines after Nikita Iyer, a passenger shared his story on Linked In. Here’s Pataabi Raman’s story.

Former English Lecturer Turns Auto Driver In Bangalore Due To Lack Of Pension

In her Linked In post, Nikita Iyer revealed taht she was late to work when an auto drove near her.  She sceptically told the auto driver that she needed to get to the other end of Bangalore and was already late. In impeccable English, the auto driver replied ‘Please come in Ma’am, you can pay what you want. ‘ Taken aback, she got in the auto-rickshaw and had a 45-minute enriching conversation with Pataabi Raman. The 74-year-old English lecturer became an auto driver after he retired. As a teacher in a private institution, he earned just ₹10,000-₹15,000 and didn’t get any pension either.

His Determination & Positive Attitude Wins The Internet

Pataabi Raman works tirelessly as an auto-driver for 9 to 10 hours a day for the past 14 years. The 74-year-old man told the passenger that he lives with his 72-year-old wife, whom he calls his “girlfriend”. He calls her his girlfriend as she is his equal. He says that when husbands say wives, they often think she is their slave. His “girlfriend” is in no way inferior to him. In fact Pataabi Raman says she is superior. The English lecturer lives in a 1BHK home in Kadugodi where his son helps pay the rent of ₹12,000. Apart from this, the couple isn’t dependent on their son. Pataabi Raman’s story instantly went viral. People lauded him for his determination and grit.
