Muskaan Foundation Set Up In 1982 By Shanti Auluck

Muskaan Foundation in Dwarka, Delhi is founded by Shanti Auluck in 1982. This foundation aims to provide vocational training and opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities. Muskaan supports and informs their families about their condition while raising awareness in society about their disabilities and their rights. Shanti Auluck started Muskaan Foundation through her experiences with her own son, Puneet born with Down Syndrome. She revealed to Business Standard that at Muskaan they don’t just impart vocational skills but let individuals reach their fullest potential and improve their quality of life.

Muskaan Provides Vocational Training & Opportunities To Individuals With Intellectual Disabilities

When her son, Puneet was born, Shanti Auluck was traumatised. But today, her life as a parent has transformed and Puneet has become her best friend and biggest support. Puneet initially worked as a member of Muskaan’s training programme that offers placements. But later he chose to be independent and started working in a hotel. Despite getting the comforts of shorter hours and less money at Muskaan, he wanted to be independent and earn more money. In Shanti Auluck’s words to Business Standard, individuals with intellectual; disabilities should also have the freedom to decide their course of life.
