Eid Al Fitr is just around the corner and millions of UAE Residents are about to travel for the same. So, expats flying abroad are advised to carry Emirates ID to avoid delays at the airports. Let’s tell you all about the need for Emirates IDs and how you can get them.

The UAE residents are to carry Emirates ID to visa-on-arrival destinations. One must produce the Emirates ID at the airport when a visa is not stamped in the passport.

The ID now serves as proof of residency. The updated version of the card contains details that can be used to be printed on the visa stamp. The immigration counters at various airports can read the data on the ID.

What is it?

This ID is the mandatory UAE Government-issued identity card for the UAE’s citizens and residents. It is used:

  • to access government services
  • to cast vote in the elections of the Federal National Council
  • as the travel document for UAE citizens
  • as a legal document to pass immigration via eGates and smart gates at airports in the UAE.

How To Get It?

To apply for an Emirates ID card, you need to check the website of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security- ICP.

  • Visit one of the ICP’s service centres to provide biometric details.
  • Check the ICP website for the application process, documents required and fees.
  • Keep track of your application.

Get It In 24 hours

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security has a service called Fawri. It provides an urgent service for getting the ID card within 24 hours. It can be obtained for renewal of expired cards, lost or damaged cards, and first-time registration. Having said that, it is important to note that expatriate residents who aren’t GCC nationals are only allowed to use the urgent service in case of the replacement of their identity cards.

Additionally, it is important to note that those who want to obtain their Emirates ID within 24 hours will have to pay an urgent service fee. Moreover, the ICP website has given a varied fee structure for the services.
