Melbourne restaurateur Ifthikar Shah recalled an incident that happened in 1992. He received a call from fast bowler Wasim Akram, who said that they were served sandwiches here that were not enough to help them stay energetic throughout the match. He asked him if he had any leftover biryani from last night. Shah assured him biryani in an hour.
The Pakistani team members were serving delicious and steaming hot Biryani in just an hour, as promised. After having the meal, all the players went out to play in the finals against England. Wasim bowled two unplayable deliveries that led the team to beat England and win the World Cup trophy.

Nostalgia Is About To Walk In 30 Years Later
This incident occurred 30 years ago, and Shah still remembers it vividly. Now fast-forwarding to 30 years later, Iftikhar Shah is again going to the Melbourne Cricket Ground to witness England versus Pakistan in the World Cup finals. Though the teams have changed, even today the biryani connection remains the same.
Pakistani players went to dine at Shah’s restaurant, Mint & Co., on University Street in Melbourne. Shah, in the early 1980s, had come to Melbourne from Lahore. It was beyond his wildest dreams to witness not only Pakistan’s victory on Australian soil but also his restaurant’s contribution to the miraculous victory.
