Tourism In Goa Largely Dependent On Russia And UK: Tourism Minister

In an interview with Curly Tales, singing sensation Prateek Kuhad had said that he prefers the beaches of Goa more than the beaches abroad. He had stated that European beaches are clean but empty but Goan beaches have the perfect balance of natural beauty, good food, shacks and more. No wonder, Goa attracts tourists from all across the globe. In a recent session of the Goa Assembly, the state’s tourism minister Rohan Khaunte stated that tourism in the beach destination is largely dependent on Russia and the UK, along with a few parts of Europe. “Looking at the listing of the Center of Pacific Aviation, it is evident that we are competing today. We call ourselves one of the preferred destinations in the world, yes we are.”, stated Khaunte.

Russian And British Tourists Pay More In Goa

Khaunte said that Goa had received 9.31 lakh foreign tourists and 71.27 lakh domestic tourists in 2019. He added that the numbers had dropped drastically in 2020 and 2021 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. Khaunte said that the state received just around 3 lakh domestic travellers and 32,000 international travellers during that period. Russian and British tourists spend more than other tourists when they reach Goa, as indicated by reports. Khaunte also said that the whole system needs to be recreated in the post-pandemic world to boost the state’s tourism sector.
