Water Taxi Service Connecting Mumbai To Navi Mumbai Flagged Off

Navi Mumbai is now just a water taxi ride away from South Mumbai. The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) has commenced eco-friendly and convenient ferry rides between the Gateway of India and Nerul. You can take your pets, bikes, cars and SUVs all the way to Navi Mumbai. Dodge the heavy traffic as you glide through the blue waters in a spacious ferry to reach your destination on time. The much-awaited Mumbai water taxi services have finally got inaugurated on February 17 by the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal.  The first water taxi left from Belapur Jetty. So far, three routes have been finalised: Domestic Cruise Terminal at Ferry Wharf Mazgaon in South Mumbai and the terminals at Belapur, Belapur, and Elephanta Caves, and Belapur and JNPT.

Water Taxi Takes You To Navi Mumbai In Under 40 Minutes

A ferry service will soon be launched between Gateway of India and Nerul. While it’s costlier to take this water taxi in comparison to driving down to Navi Mumbai or taking a train, it’s certainly convenient and hassle-free. A 42 km long journey between Princess Dock to Nerul will be cut short to just 19 km. Driving down to Navi Mumbai from South Mumbai would take around 1.5 hours. A water taxi would ferry you there in just 30 to 40 minutes.

Dodge The Traffic & Travel In Style

This development comes after a trail run was organised by the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) in October. The one-way fare is estimated to cost around ₹200 for passengers, ₹150 for pets, ₹100 for bikes, ₹400 for cars and ₹500 for SUVs. This is much higher than a second class train ticket that costs ₹15 or a first class ticket that costs ₹150. Neverthless by hitching a water taxi you can reach Navi Mumbai quickly by dodging the traffic.

The Boat Ferries 300 Passengers At A Time

Moreover, you can enjoy the sea breeze and blue water views while you do so! After all, the fares are much lower than commuting in a private vehicle or cab. The boats can ferry up to 300 people at a time along with 75 two-wheelers and 80 four-wheelers. In the future, water taxis may ply from Belpur to Thane, Gateway of India and Vashi, to Thane and Gateway of India.
