The world is once again witnessing a rise in COVID-19 cases. Health experts have predicted that with South East Asian countries like China and Hong Kong witnessing a spike in coronavirus cases, India will also witness a rise in cases by next month. In the next 40 days, cases are expected to rise. So, keeping this in mind here are 5 things you need to do when travelling amid the new COVID-19 wave.

5 things To Keep In Mind When Travelling Amid COVID-19

Masks will once again make a comeback. Beach destination Puducherry has already announced the new mask mandate. This involves wearing masks in public places including malls, parks, movie theatres and the famous Beach Road. Even Karnataka has made masks mandatory in closed places, AC rooms and during outdoor celebrations. It’s always better to be safe and wear masks to protect yourself from infection.

Many airports across India have started random testing for passengers arriving from international destinations like Thailand, South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Japan. After all, these countries reported a massive spike in COVID-19 cases. So, travellers arriving from these nations must have negative RT-PCR tests. Thanks to random testing at Indian airports, 39 international travellers were detected to be infected with COVID-19.

3. Start Carrying Your Sanitisers

It’s time to buy fresh bottles of sanitisers and keep them handy during your trips. After all, you will be travelling in close quarters with strangers, and the festive season would bring in a holiday rush like no other. During these moments, it’s safe to keep sanitising your hands and avoid contaminating them.

4. Avoid Crowded Zones

With the new COVID-19 wave looming over us coupled with the current chilly winter, people are susceptible to infections. So, it’s wise to avoid travelling to crowded touristy destinations. Opt for remote, quieter getaways where you can spend quality time with your loved ones. Popular must-visit restaurants, iconic monuments and super-crowded beach getaways can wait for a while.

5. Choose Personal Hotel Rooms Over Hostels

Hostels are budget-friendly, undoubtedly. But this is the time to stay clear from infections and avoid staying in close quarters with other travellers. So, choose personal hotel rooms over hostels for your accommodations. Yes, it can be a little over budget. Nevertheless, it will ensure you are safe and healthy.

So, these are some of the things you can keep in mind while travelling amid the new COVID-19 wave. Stay safe!
