After days of hot, humid weather and heatwave conditions, Delhi woke up to a fresh spell of rain and thunderstorms today. While the sudden change brought much-needed relief to residents, it also disrupted air travel across the region. Several airlines, including IndiGo and SpiceJet, have issued travel advisories for passengers in view of the weather conditions. Here’s everything you need to know.

Thunderstorms & Rain In Delhi Disrupt Air Travel

According to The Times of India, the sudden rain and thunderstorms have disrupted flight schedules at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Airport authorities recorded wind speeds of 40–50 km/h earlier this morning. The adverse weather has prompted airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air to issue travel advisories for passengers.

“#WeatherUpdate: Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status,” SpiceJet announced on their X account.

Akasa Air wrote on X, “Due to severe weather conditions in Delhi, certain flights across our network have been impacted. We realise that this may inconvenience your travel plans and seek your patience and understanding. While this situation is completely beyond our control, please rest assured that our teams are always ready to assist you.”

IMD Issues Alert For More Thunderstorms & Dust Storms In The Region

Following the rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued ‘orange’ and ‘yellow’ alerts across Delhi-NCR for thunderstorms, dust storms, and rain. An orange alert has been issued for southwest Delhi, with warnings of thunderstorms accompanied by winds of up to 60 km/h.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for northwest, west, north, south, and southeast Delhi, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms and gusty winds in these areas, The Times of India reported.
