Try Coffee With Brandy At A Height Of 15,300 Feet At Zero Point In Sikkim

Zero Point in North Sikkim, which sits at a height of 15,300 feet above sea level, is always blanketed in thick snow. At Zero Point, there is snow in every nook and corner. It is one of India’s highest points and is close to the China border. Temperatures are acutely low here, with mercury levels dipping below -2°C to -5°C. Zero Point is one of the most surreal places on the planet, yet the biting cold here may make your palms feel numb. But worry not! Locals at Zero Point sell a special drink to keep your body warm. It is known as coffee with brandy. Yes, they provide piping hot coffee mixed with local brandy. Read on!

Local Cocktail In Sikkim To Keep Your Body Warm

Sikkim’s Zero Point, located around 2.5 hours drive away from Lachung, is also known as Yume Samdong. The coffee with brandy served here is one of the strongest cocktails you’ll ever try. Speaking from my personal experience, the taste of the drink was extremely sharp on my tongue. But many of my friends went bonkers over it. And it is not sold in pubs and cafes. In fact, you won’t spot any prominent restaurant or cafe at Zero Point. There are tiny open-air kiosks run by locals that sell Maggi, tea, coffee, sandwiches and other munchies. From the same stalls, you can buy coffee with brandy, local wines and even beers.

To make the cocktail, the locals first measure the brandy in a metal shot glass and pour it inside a paper glass. And they pour in a lot of brandy, we mean more than the standard 60 ml. Over the brandy, they pour the steaming coffee. Take a few sips of the drink and within a few minutes, you’ll feel the warmth inside your body.
