UAE Will Send The First Arab Mission To The Moon By 2024

The UAE will send the first Arab mission to the moon by 2024. The announcement was made during the launch of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre 2021-2031 strategy on 27 September. The move comes few months after the UAE successfully launched the Hope probe to Mars. Here’s Everything You Need To Know About The Mission.

The mission- a part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre’s (MBRSC) 10-year strategy includes programmes to develop new specialised satellites as well as an outer space simulation centre. The new space centre is expected to be used for training, academic and educational programmes.

On his Twitter account, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said: “The UAE’s ambition in the space sector to explore, plan and make the future. Our youth, engineers and pioneers open new horizons in the science, technology and innovation fields in this vital sector for the future of our world.”

The Strategy Behind UAE’s Space Mission

UAE’s space mission focuses mainly on three key areas: space missions, research and development, and sustainability. The space missions listed in UAE’s plan include the Hope Probe, Environmental Monitoring Nanometric Satellites, the Emirates Moon Exploration Project, and a second mission for astronauts.

The Hope Probe was launched from Japan recently and will reach Mars in February 2021. The Emirates Moon Exploration Project aims to send the first Arab mission to the moon by 2024. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed further added that innovation in space will attract new investments as well as prepare a new generation of qualified national cadres in the space sector to specialize in science, technology and space sectors.

UAE’s space mission plans was revealed just as the country celebrated the one-year anniversary of the UAE’s first astronaut going to the International Space Station.
