River cruises are meant to be fun and relaxing. However, a cruise ride took a scary turn for the tourists on a ship in Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River recently. Due to the incessant rainfall in the region, the water level of the river rose and as the cruise was passing under a bridge, all the passengers were forced to duck to avoid hitting the bridge. Videos of the scary incident were captured by people on the cruise and posted online.

Recently, tourists on a cruise on Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River were asked to crouch down to avoid hitting a bridge as the ship passed underneath. The scary incident was captured by some tourists and the video of the incident has since gone viral. According to OneIndia, the incident took place due to the surge in water levels of the river.

The terrifying moment occurred as the water levels in the Chao Phraya River rose after continuous rainfall in the region. In the video, you can see the staff asking the passengers to duck down as the cruise sails through increasingly swollen waters of the river under the bridge. The passengers, clearly startled and scared, immediately hunched down and some even took cover under the massive tables of the cruise.

Challenges Faced By Cruise Lines & Boat Operators

The Chao Phraya River is often called the lifeline for Bangkok. Tourists often take cruise ships on the river to admire the city’s scenic beauty. However, the recent torrential rains in the city have caused panic among cruise lines and boat owners. The swollen waters of the river have intensified safety concerns. This is especially scary since this isn’t a rainy season in the region. Due to the rising river water, local authorities have asked tourists and locals to exercise caution and pay heed to the warnings issued by cruise lines and boat operators.
