Monsoon has arrived in India and as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), severe rains are on the cards for various regions in the country. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to hit ten Indian states till August 3 and torrential rains across Maharashtra will continue for the next few days. Read on to know more about the weather updates in the country.

IMD Predicts Heavy Rains Across India Till Next Week

The IMD took to X (formerly Twitter) to predict heavy rainfall in several states until August 3. The weather department has forecasted active monsoon conditions over most parts of northwest India during the next 4-5 days. They also expect an increase in rainfall over East India from July 30.

They have predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Konkan & Goa, Kerala & Mahe, and Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi. IMD has also issued an orange alert for rainfall in isolated sections of these states. These rain showers are expected to bring down the minimum temperature in these regions and bring respite for the people.

Fairly widespread and very heavy rainfalls are expected In Northeastern areas like Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from July 30 – August 1. The severity is expected to be around 115.6mm – 204.6 mm.

Heavy Rains Cause Flood-Like Situation In Maharashtra, Casualties In UP

Due to torrential rains in Maharashtra, there has been a flood-like situation in various parts of the state. After Mumbai and Pune, Kolhapur experienced flash floods due to heavy rains. The authorities are reviewing the flood situations in the state to take further action.

Across the country, heavy rainfall has led to several casualties. According to Moneycontrol, four people have been reported dead in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh within the last 24 hours. In Maharashtra, six casualties have been reported so far due to the recent Pune floods.
